comparison of environmental impacts for dryland and irrigated barley agroecosystems by using life cycle assessment (lca) methodology
Authors
abstract
this study examined the environmental impacts of irrigated and rainfed barley agroecosystems of iran based on nitrogen levels by using lca methodology during 1999-2013. four steps includung goal definition and scoping, inventory analysis, life cycle impact assessment and integration & interpretation were considered. impact categories were acidification, eutrophication and global warming. functional unit was considered as one tonne grains. the results revealed that the maximum aquatic eutrophication for irrigated and dryland barley were 2.42 and 1.64 po4 equiv./t grain for 140-180 and 30-40 kg n ha-1 , respectively. in irrigated barley agroecosystem, the maximum global warming was computed 898.24 co2 equiv./t grain for 140-180 kg n ha-1 and it was 604.66 co2 equiv./tgrain in dryland for 30-40 kg n ha-1 . eco-index ranges for irrigated and rainfed agroecosystems were computed with 0.27-0.46 and 0.28-0.31 per one tonne grain for aquatic eutrophication and acidification, respectively.

study of environmental impacts for potato agroecosystems of iran by using life cycle assessment (lca) methodology
life cycle assessment (lca) had proven to be an appropriate assessment tool for analysis of agri-food products by identifying, quantifying and evaluating the resources consumed and emissions released into the environment. this study was performed for evaluation the environmental impacts of potato agroecosystems based on nitrogen levels by using lca methodology. tuber yield mean during 1999-2013...
full textFood Polymeric Packaging Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)
Food packaging is used to maintain the safety and quality of food during distribution and storage and to protect them from adverse internal and external conditions, such as water vapor, spoilage due to microorganisms, moisture, light, and dust. In this regard, lots of research studies have been done to increase shelf life, safety, and quality to create suitable physico...
full textComparison of simplified environmental assessments versus full life cycle assessment (LCA) for the electronics designer
Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) are evolving as the most advanced method for comparing the environmental effects of products. In the complex field of electronic and microelectronic components a lot of effort has to be invested in data gathering, before serious assessments can be attempted. Today it is still not possible for an average company to include environmental optimization by LCA in the tim...
full textLife-Cycle Assessment methodology: a tool for the evaluation of environmental and toxicological impacts of ammunitions
Over the last ten years the environmental concerns associated with the military activities have increased due to legislation pressure and an increasing awareness to the environmental issues. Such situation has leaded the defence industry and the Armed Forces to seek for a tool to evaluate the environmental burdens associated with ammunitions. Some methodologies have been applied to evaluate the...

full textTowards a meaningful assessment of marine ecological impacts in life cycle assessment (LCA).
Human demands on marine resources and space are currently unprecedented and concerns are rising over observed declines in marine biodiversity. A quantitative understanding of the impact of industrial activities on the marine environment is thus essential. Life cycle assessment (LCA) is a widely applied method for quantifying the environmental impact of products and processes. LCA was originally...
